Instructions
Preparing lentil and bean
Wash and rinse black Lentil and red kidney beans and soak in a water overnight.
Drain the water and transfer the beans to a pressure cooker, then add 2 cups water. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes with natural pressure release.
To make the masala
Heat butter and ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat and add bay leaf and green cardamon and cook for 1 minute.Add onion and cook about 10 minutes until it becomes light golden brown.
Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute then add masala spice (coriander, kashmiri chili, cumin, mango powder, nutmeg) and cook for another 1 minute.
Add green chili and cook for 1 minute, add tomato puree and mix well then bring to a boil. Add dal and beans including cooking liquid and mix well. Simmer on low heat, uncovered for around 30-40 minutes. Stir often(every 5 minutes) to avoid the dal will stick to the bottom of the pot. If it's evaporated so quickly, you might need to add some water while simmering.
Add Garam Masala, Kasuri Methi and heavy cream and mix well, simmer for 1 minute and it's ready to serve.
